RESEARCH OVERVIEW
“Activation of Stat3 by cell-to-cell adhesion”
Cellular interactions with neighbouring cells influence signalling events involved in mitogenesis, survival and differentiation. In vivo, tumor cells have extensive opportunities for adhesion with their neighbours. Cadherins have recently emerged as a group of cell-cell adhesion molecules playing key roles in the regulation of signalling events as well as the maintenance of tissue architecture. We recently demonstrated that cadherin engagement leads to increased activity of Stat3,an oncoprotein often abnormally activated in cancer. We are exploring the hypothesis that this pathway could be a promising target in the treatment of cancers. |
